I know it’s inconvenient and borderline absurd but I don’t think there’s a way we can get WPML to change it; it’s the default translation field.
I suggest you create/edit the translation in a different editor (e.g. notepad, sublime, etc.) and then paste it into WPML’s field.

I wonder if the Woocommerce tab manager will be the same … But I do like this Custom Product Tabs for WooCommerce, but having to go to an editor :(. Maybe just skip extra tabs altogether.

We don’t have control or influence over WPML so I can’t do anything to change this issue.
If you find that another tab plugin integrates better with WPML, feel free to let me know and I will look into it and see if we can replicate that.
