wp_translations_log table in DB is huge – can table contents be emptied?

Noticed the wp_translations_log table in DB is huge – can table contents be emptied? My database backups are really huge now.

In addition to this, are there any general guidelines to keep the transposh database tables down in size? If so, do you have any tutorials on this or other tutorials that can be of value?
