I’m trying to help a friend export a 1.1GB sql file from Godaddy’s servers. One of his tables is 1.1GB in size: wp_options

Can someone explain why it’s so large? The site itself is a small site running woocommerce and about 10 plugins, only about 40-50 products too.

My friend did have Next Gen plugin but I see it is deactivated right now, so maybe this is the culprit? How would I greatly trim the table safely without affecting crucial data?

@chadi – If there are entries from NextGEN Gallery still in the table then you could try re-activating NextGEN Gallery and go under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous and clear the image cache … otherwise, I really cannot say what might be in the table or what might have written it there.

I don’t see that option anywhere. I’ve reactivated it. This is what I see

    What about these woocommerce tools?

@chadi – Have you tried only having NextGEN Gallery active?

No, site is live and don’t want to interrupt it incoming orders (pretty much 24/7).

Would deleting entirely these inactive plugins clear that 1.1GB wp_options table significantly?

    The 27 non-active plugins are

    Akismet
    Gizmo Store Locator
    Go Daddy Quick Setup
    Hello Dolly
    Hyyan Admin Color Schema
    Jetpack
    LayerSlider
Maintenance (I installed this one actually)
    NextGen
    oAuth Twitter Feed
    Previous/Next Post in Taxonomy
    Regenerate Thumbnails
    Revolution Slider
    Taxonmy Metadata
    UX Featured Item Post
    WooCommerce Authorize.net CIM Gateway
    WooCommerce Authorize.net Reporting
    WooCommerce checkout Field Editor
    WooCommerce Fedex shipping
    WooCommerce PDF Invoices
    WooCommerce Print Invoice
    WooCommerce Sequential Order Numbers
    WooCommerce Twilio SMS
    WooCommerce USPS
    Woo Sidebars
    YITH WooCommerce Ajax Product Filter
    YITH WooCommerce Wishlist

@chadi – Inactive plugins would not be (or they should not be!!) generating any entries into the database but that does not mean to say they did not generate them when they were active previously.

Did you try re-activating NextGEN Gallery and clearing the image cache? Did that have any affect on the table?

    Hi @photocrati

I mentioned this a few days ago actually. “I don’t see that option anywhere. I’ve reactivated it. This is what I see” Clear image cache was nowhere to be found.

I just updated Nextgen to latest version and ran “clear all caches”. Only option I found. Didn’t affect the table though.

So I’m browsing that table in godaddy’s incredibly outdated phpmyadmin version. I do see a lot of these entries, not sure what they are.

Found the solution! Thanks for your help in the process as well.

Resolved!! Just finished running an update from 2.0.5 to 2.0.7, and there is now a new feature in Woocommerce > System Status > Tools, “Clear all sessions”(not listed on the dev log). Now instead of 2,000+ sessions, I only have what’s actually being used! I can only assume that little button was your idea, Mike — thanks for that, if you’re reading. Now I can sleep at night.
