Support » Plugin: Custom Post Type UI » WP_Core UI for custom taxonomies?

The UI for custom taxonomies (input with autocomplete) differs from the WP Core UI (checkboxes to add categories to a post). The latter is much more intuitive. The way CPT UI does taxonomies you have to know the categories in order to add them, whereas the WP Core UI with checkboxes lists them all out.

Is this something that can be updated in the future?

    Good day @wadehammes

This is actually all a setting from WordPress core and based on if you specify a taxonomy as hierarchical or not. The default is that a taxonomy is not. This makes the taxonomy behave like the “post_tag” taxonomy that posts come with, where you get the auto-suggest text input. However, if you make the taxonomy hierarchical, you get the list of existing terms that you can check, very much like categories.

So, to get your taxonomy to behave the way you’re preferring here, simply update its settings to “hierarchical: true”

Ah nice! Cool (might make sense to add the UI difference there in the explanation), I would have never guessed that.
