I completely removed WP 1.5 from my domain. Took all the files out with FileZilla. I didn’t save a thing cause I wanted a fresh start. I had not installed any plugins.

I went through the steps to install WP2, fresh as if I never had WP there before.

My database is blog. I made sure there are no spaces around the word I typed in.

For some reason when I run the Install file WP can’t find my database. Why? I tried changing to another word rather than blog but it is the same story.

http://www.thatgrrl.ca/blog -Nothing there to see at this point.

Help please. I can’t find any reason for this error. My old WP blog was working just fine this afternoon and it was on the same http://www.thatgrrl.ca/blog link.

Did you use the same wp-config.php values from your old file? If you did, does the database still exist? Can you confirm that by checking the control panel for your hosting account?

Are you sure that the database name is just “blog”. Usually, the database name is “username_blog”. The control panel for your hosting account will give you the exact values for your database name and database user.

For some reason I changed the database to my user name and it said I already have WP installed. So it’s there but now it isn’t showing up. Just a blank page.

I think I read someone else post that same thing the other day when I was in here reading about WP2.

When you deleted all of your WordPress files, did you also remove all of the WordPress tables from the database? If you didn’t, then WordPress will not install because that database still has your WP v1.5.x tables in it.

I recommend that you delete you “blog” database and start again by following this guide:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions

Check that you (the user) have ALL priviledges on the database. Someone I helped earlier had a similar problem and not enough priviledges was the answer.
You will see what you have on the mysql page of your cpane if you have one.

    It’s working!

I found the thread about a blank page and tried the fix for adding a theme. It gave me something about an upgrade which I clicked through. Then it went blank again. I typed in the same URL for wpadmin/theme and then it said I had not chosen a theme.

Now it works. So odd. 🙂

Thank you both and the people from the other thread. It’s so great to be able to come here and always get help.

Happy New Year and thank you to all the WP volunteers. I can’t imagine how things would be without each of you. You are all great.
