WP vs. WPMU (7 posts)

Hi, I want to set up a blog on my site and have a few of my friends write blog entries as well. So the home page will have the last 5 latest blog entries from each of us. But then you can see blog entries just specific to one of us.

Do I need to install WP or WPMU? As the admin I'll be responsible for creating an "author" account for each of my friends.

WPMU looks like if you were going to be blogger.com or something.

Can I use WP to set up the above but be able to show specific blog entry lists for each of us? I don't want to have our entries "mixed up" together.

Is that possible? And can I do it with WP or do I need to use WPMU?

Yes WP allows multiple authors, and is much better if you are all concentrating on a single blog. WPMU is more for multiple authors with separate blogs.

    Hi Ajd777,

Thanks for replying. With WP, can you show all blog entries by a specific author on a web page? On my home page I'm going to list us all with the last 5 entries we each made. Do you know if thats possible?

And then when you're reading say, John's 1/20/2007 entry, you can see a list of his other recent entries?

Sorry if I am asking too many questions.

I don't believe it can do it out of the box, but it shouldn't be too hard with a plugin or two or some custom calls in the theme.

WPmu is not fit to china users...content control is too strict~!

WordPress does have built-in functionality to display all posts by a specific author. You can make that page look exactly like the main page if you want, except with the posts filtered.

Try adding the wp_list_authors() template tag to your sidebar, and see how that goes.

I should say explicityly, multi-user isn't what you want, unless you wish to offer a blog hosting service.
