  • Hi there, I’m german based and want to get some sort of a gauge on what sort of time scale and fee’s I’m looking at in upgrading my WP from the ancient V2.3 to 3.0.1. .

I’d really appreciate some honest advise as I’ve been badly screwed in the past. The more I learn the more screwed I appear to have been ! So I’d really appreciate some idea of hrs and hrly rates. I have advertised on WP Jobs forum.

  • Depends on how bad off your themes and plugins are, really.

The actual upgrade is the easy part. Getting all the stuff you’ve added on and customized to work right is going to be hard.

Thanks. I’ve had variables from $20 per hour to $125 per hour !!

I ran a benchmark for the consultants I know, based on their webpages. About $75.hour seems standard.

If you already did most of the work yourself to begin with, it might not be a bad idea to upgrade yourself. It should be pretty quick. As ipstenu stated, you might have to upgrade your plugins too but if they’re even remotely compatible, the new version of WP will allow you to do a bunch of them at once. Just back up your db and give it a shot. It should take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on what you have.

If you insist on hiring someone, you can find WP help for $50-$80/hr for US techies. However, you should be able to find a bunch for under $20/hr from other countries.
