 * The latest automatic 4.7.5 WP-update has changed all the Danish characters (æ,
   ø, å) on my blog to gibberish. I have deactivated all plug-ins, and also tried
   another theme, with no result. Anyone who has an idea why and what to do?

 * (The update also remove my menus, but only on parts of the site, like the home
   page, but that seems like another problem…).
 * Thanks in advance!
 * /Christian

 * Looks like UTF-8 got screwed up somewhere. Could you check your MySQL database
   collation? Also, cold you just temporarily revert to TwentySixteen theme and
   see if the issue persists?

 * Thanks for replying. I have changed to TwentySixteen now again, but it does not
   seem to help. My database collation is set to: utf8_general_ci. And has changed
   to a so-called MariaDB, I realise, without my knowledge (by the webhost One.com).

 * Then the only remaining thing is to contact your webhost and ask them to fix
   the issue, because apparently it is caused by them. What is left for you to do
   is to access your database directly from phpMyAdmin or appropriate tool and check
   if the posts inside the database have proper Danish characters. If they do, then
   UTF-8 gets screwed up between the database and WordPress frontend.

 * You were right. The problem was due to their change/transfer from MySQL to MariaDB,
   and they have fixed it now.
 * What confused me was that it happened at the same time as the WP update (that
   made my sidebar menus disappear – I have fixed that myself).
 * Thanks a lot for your help!
