    Due to installing wp through click and build I’m unable to upgrade wp due to permissions being locked.

    Exact same issue as shaun in this thread

    ‘Because wordpress was installed via 1&1, all of the files were locked. I had to manually reinstall WP to make the changes.’

    I’m looking for some guidance (tips) on the best way to approach doing this as It seems like a difficult task and I don’t want to mess it up? 1&1 aren’t the most forthcoming of people to deal with..

    Any help or pointers would be appreciated 🙂

  • As I similarly mentioned in the thread you used for reference:

    Contact your hosts support group and tell them exactly what you just stated. Ask them to restore ownership of the files on your web space to your user account. Then you can do whatever you want with them.

    Thanks Clayton.

    For some reason I thought 1&1 were going to be difficult with this. However, I’ve finally just received a reply from them;

    ‘The best thing that we can do is to manually install wordpress so that you can edit the back end of your website. However by doing this you need to recreate your website after installing. We can backup your database so you need to create a new database and import the backup.’

    I was wrong to have doubt it would seem. Things are just a little overwhelming for newbie’s sometimes but I guess that’s about par for the course. Thanks again, very much appreciated.

    You’re welcome.
