[resolved] [WP Super Cache] Diskspace Questions (5 posts)

  1. I turned WP Super Cache back on today, and my old fussbudget concern about disk space is back.

    My wp cache folder is using up 1.4M of space (as of having the app back on for 8 hours). Looking at the stats, there are only 30ish pages cached (and compression is turned on).

    WP-Cache
    * 14 cached pages

    WP-Super-Cache
    * 13 cached pages

    It looks like it's still making two 'pages', one compressed and one not. Is this normal? If so, what am I gaining by having compressed files?

  2. Bandwidth. Compressed files are served to anybody whose browser says that they can accept them. Uncompressed ones are served to everybody else.

    Compression helps you use less bandwidth, which is generally something you tend to pay a lot for on most hosts.

    Caching is not trying to conserve diskspace. Why? Because disk space is usually very, very cheap. Heck, you can get a flat couple gig or more for nothing a month, usually. But bandwidth runs up the bills.

  3. Bandwidth. Well. Okay.

    The other question is how should I set my Expiry Time and Garbage Collection?

    I get about 600-800 users a day right now. I've seen other posts like this, and I read Donncha's post, but I'm not sure what I should be setting them at.

    Should I raise/lower/leave alone? How do I know what bash-stats mean I should change those, and what's the correlation?

    I swear I used to be smarter!

  4. Hmm, maybe I should make a new post, but... This was in my raw error log

    Those were the only three, though. I dumped the whole cache and nothing's come back yet.

  5. Side note: Moving my cache to /tmp (THANK you Otto!) cured my server's CPU woes. Of course they're telling me /tmp has a 'limited' space. Which rolls me back to diskspace wonderings. How much space does a small blog take up with WPSC?

    (Yes, I'm aware that's nebulous, vague, and begging for a 'it depends' answer)
