  • I have a fair few wpress sites now. Over the last few months updates galore come rolling in not just WP core but plug ins and themes. On running them I have lost whole sites, parts of sites, dashboards, customise panes, and more.
To the point where I just don’t want to press update anything.
The latest ‘auto’ update message : An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.
Could there a file permission issue?
Working on this issue for one site, I am hoping to sort this auto wp one first then waiting to update the theme, which won’t update. (I’m on their Forum!)
    Thanks people 🙂

A tip: I manage 60+ sites using the free plugin “MainWP”. I can handle updates, backups, etc. from a single place. Check it out! https://wordpress.org/plugins/mainwp/

There are multiple causes for why updates fail, from time-outs to permission issues. What happens if you re-try the update?

    – If your server did not like auto updating, then try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.
Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. You can never have enough backups!
