Support » Fixing WordPress » WP spawning several database queries

  • For some apparent reason my WP application tends to spawn several MySQL database queries that stalled the majority of resources on my server. I had to then reboot MySQL Service so to drop said queries.

    This has happened on my site multiple times today and I’m not sure what’s going on or how to prevent this. Like even after some minor front-end changes or uploading an image and then my site just doesn’t respond. How do I fix this?

    You can see what queries are taking place if you install https://wordpress.org/plugins/query-monitor/

    That may give you a clue as to what’s going on.

    Then, this may be a plugin or theme related. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins (except query monitor) and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site. You can then use its admin bar menu to turn on/off plugins and themes one at a time.

    Thanks for such a quick reply. I’m trying to learn here. https://gyazo.com/d9f0eaf53ca11e54c4a08ee6ca27d053 This looks serious. Here’s what I see on like 1924 before and after. Is there something I can fix here?

    1923: if ( ! empty( $this->dbh ) && $this->use_mysqli ) {
    1924: 			$this->result = mysqli_query( $this->dbh, $query );
    		} elseif ( ! empty( $this->dbh ) ) {
    			$this->result = mysql_query( $query, $this->dbh );
    		}
    		$this->num_queries++;

    		if ( defined( 'SAVEQUERIES' ) && SAVEQUERIES ) {
    			$this->queries[] = array( $query, $this->timer_stop(), $this->get_caller() );
    		}
    	}

    according to the screenshot it rather looks like your problem is in the svg support plugin?

    I recommend asking at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/svg-support#new-post so the plugin’s / theme‚Äôs developers and support community can help you with this.

    Hi there,

    I’m the developer of SVG Support.
    That query is a simple get_option so that shouldn’t stall your server.
    As mentioned, you should start by deactivating all plugins and revert to the default theme, then activate one by one and test in between until you find the culprit.
