• While trying to activate…

    Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘=’ in /wp-content/plugins/wp-spamfree/wp-spamfree.php on line 1082

    Lines 1081 through 1083:

    $filter_24_count = substr_count($commentdata_comment_content_lc, $filter_24_term);
    = 1;
    $blacklist_word_combo_total = $blacklist_word_combo_total + $filter_21_count;

    Mystery floating “= 1;”?

  • Did you modify the code of the plugin? That’s not the original plugin code as released in 1.9.6.6.

    I haven’t had any other reports of this happening, and we’ve tested it on WP 2.6.1 and it runs just fine.

    If you obtained the plugin from a source other than the plugin’s homepage on hybrid6.com or wordpress.org, you’ll need to download it again from one of these two sites.

    As per documentation for the plugin, please direct all support requests to the support form for WP-SpamFree.

    No, sir – no modifications. I downloaded it directly off WordPress.org, uploaded to my site, and then attempted to activate it.

    I’m a developer, too, and seeing this “blank line” was really puzzling to me. When I get home this evening I’m going to redownload, reextract, and reupload everything 🙂

    Very strange indeed. I fault Apple’s built-in zip extractor for this. I’ll post again and let you know if I have better luck.

    Hopefully the freshly downloaded file will work. Ah, that is definitely a possibility with auto-extractors. Manually extracting may help. You can also use WordPress’s automatic plugin update feature to ensure smooth updates if upgrading from a previous version.
