WP / Piwik behind a firewall w/ NAT, not collecting stats

  • If I go to my WP site on my internal network, piwik collects statistics fine, but if I hit it from an external network, where I have a router doing NAT no statics are collected. Is that expected behavior? Is there something that I need to configure that I am not?

    Thanks

Does the plugin itself work as expected (e.g. is the stats page shown, is the tracking code loaded)?

Yes. If I hit the site via its internal address from an internal host the stats are all recorded properly and everything looks fine. External visitors coming into the wordpress site (via the external IP that is then translated via NAT to an internal IP) are never recorded in the piwik stats.

Hm, in this case you should ask the Piwik team for support – I have no idea if the tracking script is affected by a firewall…

(One thought: Do the URLs/IPs change for external users? If the tracking code contains “piwik-internal-url.localhost” instead of “my-piwiks-external-url.com” it won’t work for external users, of course.)
