• I can’t unassociate the WP files from Dreamweaver, so I can’t install or open it on my computer. Also, is WordPress a program that only resides on my remote host, or do I have a copy on my computer that I work on, then ftp up to my site? Or do I open WP with a text editor? I’m confused by all the links on the instruction page. Last time I built a site (5 years ago) I did so with coffeecup editor. Appreciate any help (I’m also waiting for my host to add MySQL to my basic plan.) Thanks.

  • Ironfish, I’m having trouble with this too. Could you post something if you find out elsewhere?

Thanks very much (and good luck to us both 🙂

the files you want to work with are in the “theme” directory. They are .php files, which can be opened with a text editor. (I don’t know if that is the best, but I just use WordPad).

In windows you can right-click the file and say Open With… choose another program if you don’t want Dreamweaver.

    Dgold,

I did use WordPad to edit the file for setting up the SQL database settings, but I’m unable to activate the install php file. I did try using another program with it instead of Dreamweaver, but there doesn’t seem to be anything that works (which makes sense since, I think, the php file is a program of its own?). So I’m flummoxed. Windows seems to want to use a program to run the .php program rather than just letting it run itself…

    thanks for your help!

Rusalka – WordPress is to be installed on your Web host. Not on your desktop.
