  • Hello,

I am having a html site on root folder and need to wordpress site on root/sub1 and root/sub2
Can it be done via multisite without installing anything on root to prevent messing up main site?

  • I just tested this in one of my existing multisite installs and it worked. So this is what I would suggest:

Note: tour visitors may see the WP install while you are setting this up, but it should be pretty straight forward.

    1. Rename your index.html file to something different, like home.html
    2. Install WP Multisite as normal on your root folder
    3. Install Redirection plugin and activate it
    4. Go to Tools / Redirection and add a new group, call it anything like “Root” or “General”
    5. Add a redirection rule and put under Source “”
    6. Under Target URL: “”
    7. Now just add any other subsites under the network
    8. Enjoy!

This may be done directly without the Redirection plugin by putting redirections on the .htaccess file, but this way you don’t have to try to figure out the regex syntax in case you are not familiar with it.
