    I am using DirectAdmin.
    Mod_rewrite is enabled.
    No mod_secority.

    I added a subdomain on Directadmin. Installed MS with subdomain and I think I followed the instructions as needed.

    I had MS working perfectly offline on Wamp but on a new install online, it gives me the error.

    This is my htaccess:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ - [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    And this is my wp-config.php:

    /* Multisite */
    define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);
    define('MULTISITE', true);
    define('SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', true);
    $base = '/';
    define('DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', 'www.mysite.com');
    define('PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/');
    define('SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);
    define('BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);

    Tried adding php.ini in wp-admin folder, with a rule - memory=50mb. Didn't help.

    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance.

  2. What happens if you remove the .htaccess file?

    Still not working.

    I am getting this then:

    Not Found
    The requested URL /wp-admin/ was not found on this server.
    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Do you have installed plugins Floating Admin Menu?
    I find it not support well for the MS.
    Or you can check you logs file to find where the problem is.

    It's a new installation. I didn't add any themes or plugins yet.

    Please note the following facts, I think it might help to understand the problem.

    mysite.com - working

    mysite.com/wp-admin/ - working

    subdomain.mysite.com - working but showing this message "This is a placeholder for the subdomain subdomain.mysite.com" so I guess the problem is with the htaccess? or something is not connected well with my subdomain hosting settings?

    subdomain.mysite.com/wp-admin/ - Internal Server Error

    Which logs do you want to see? what I need to do in order to show you the logs?

    [Mon Jan 28 12:04:03 2013] [warn] RSA server certificate CommonName (CN) localhost' does NOT match server name!?[Mon Jan 28 12:04:03 2013] [warn] RSA server certificate CommonName (CN)localhost' does NOT match server name!?

    I found this on apache logs in DirectAdmin.

    what's wrong?

    During install I had these:

    Warning! Wildcard DNS may not be configured correctly!

    The installer attempted to contact a random hostname (fe0be4.www.mysite.com) on your domain. This resulted in an error message: Couldn't resolve host 'fe0be4.www.mysite.com'

    To use a subdomain configuration, you must have a wildcard entry in your DNS. This usually means adding a * hostname record pointing at your web server in your DNS configuration tool.

    You can still use your site but any subdomain you create may not be accessible. If you know your DNS is correct, ignore this message.

    and this:

    You will need a wildcard DNS record if you are going to use the virtual host (sub-domain) functionality.

    I cannot add a * to DirectAdmin, but I added 1 or 2 subdomains manually.
    Is it wrong that it says "fe0be4.www.mysite.com", like with the www?
    It was generated automatically by WordPress Multisite install..
