 * I am about to undertake a project:
    Redesign my primary website (imperialdub.
com) which has long been essentially unread news and links, plus a very popular“
community section” (phpbb.) after about a year of loving, coding for, and really
appreciating WordPress, i find that doing anything with phpbb is more or less
an ultra-turnoff. So my questions are:
 * > **A.** is there any simple BB script in the world which would take the user
   > info used in WordPress, and retain it/ retrieve it for use on the board?
   > **
   > B.** is there some way to hack, or plug-in, wordpress so that it might operate
   > more like a BB than a blog?
 * I really want to use one or more installs of WP to execute my entire site, but
the issue of ‘community’ is really important. And somehow a “blog” is such a
singlular, try-not-to-get-too-personal experience that the dynamic is _very_
   different.
Still, the thought of the latest post/comment popping into the first
position on the index, as well as the display only being the title/author just
doesn’t seem like a way-impossible operation. that said, i don’t have the know
how to alter the post order in the WP structure itself. and even if i did (cause
i am going to try regardless) i wonder ifthe cookie info would even be shared
between 2 installations of WP. Probably not, right? bammer… F.

 * One of the most unanswered popular questions. Integrating bulletin board to wordpress
is in the wishlist of many. Would you be their Santa, dss?

 * Indeed, i have and will continue to pester our beloved Mr. M about this.
    But
i still think that with Gravatars installed, showing only excerpts, and allowing
the latest comment to place that post into the first position of the blog’s index,
and we have all that we need right here in WP. I’ve got the look and feel down.
I just haven’t got any more of a clue how to adjust the code to change the way
positioning (or display order) is effected by comments (or not) in the actual
WP files. Or how to share cookies between installs of WP on the same domain.
when i figure this out, i will release a version of WP-Board to be installed
along side a primary install. Like pictoralis. anyone who knows php better than
   i do (heh…) wanna help out? F.

 * Just grab small bulletion board software and dissect the code and integrate it.

Alternatively, we already have a “recent comment” plugin, just get the post ID
of that comment and grab the corresponding post.

 * If you just want to mod wordpress so that posts are ordered by most recent comment
all you need to do is change the sql query– I believe. Lemme go check….OK I haven’t
really delved much into the WordPress source code, but from what I can tell that’s
all you should have to change. Someone else here who’s more familiar with the
code would know if I am right.

 * I’ll check the sql, and see what i can find.
    If anyone more experienced than
i knows the answer, please advise! : )

 * i couldn’t find anything that made any sense to me.
    i think possible dissecting
a small bb might be another option, but it seems so simple to just adjust the
way new comments and posts are displayed. the order… ghaaa… F.

 * How advanced should your board be?

 * What about just integrating with a current board like vBulletin? I’d even pay
to have it done for me.

 * The cross application cookie sharing has a workaround for phpbb
    [http://frenchfragfactory.net/ozh/archives/2004/08/14/integration-of-phpbb2-into-a-site/](http://frenchfragfactory.net/ozh/archives/2004/08/14/integration-of-phpbb2-into-a-site/)
i’m positive there’s an application like “fetch all” for all or most of the message
board sites available. i have abandoned the line of thinking that sharing information
between two seperate applications would be interesting. use fetch all if all
you want to do is compare tables, or get/posts. I am stalled here (still) because
i can’t work out how to get a post to move into the latest position on a WP installation.
to use the date and time in a messageboard situation would ask that the comment
data change the date stamp on the main entry. while visually it is not difficult
to change the look and feel of a post v. comment. technically you would need
two date stamps. 1. the actual date of post. 2. the date based position. so using
the date as the method for placing a BB style WP, would entail abandoning our
affection for dates. thus modifying the date, and changing it to “last modified”
or “last commented” and then assigning post position this way. or (groan) adding
a second set of tables for the date and combining the post and comment date stamp
to reflect a single positioning variable. or (groan) creating a second set of
unseen variables which determine the post position. this is the brick wall right
now. i am getting highly skilled at destroying WP installations. F.

 * More hope for those wanting to integrate a bb into wp:
notes from minibb 2.0 which might interest wp coders: * Optimization of mySQL
module (3x times smaller than previous and much more universal, allowing to create
addos and plugins with more pleasure) * Optimization of mySQL requests, containing
temporary tables, for faster execution. * Complete working with register_globals
   set to OFF, all functions rewritten with $_GET, $_POST, $_COOKIE, $GLOBALS, $
_SESSION variables. * Possibility to integrate miniBB with existing users database(
structure must be kept original) * Possibility to use your own PHP header/footer
when intergrating into the site * Date function is replaced to the same format
as in PHP * Possibility to use PHP sessions (optional) when logging

 * So, obviously this is a dead project…
 * /* Fernando boxes up his 52 installs of punbb, breaks them into kindling, and
joins the dev list for bbPress */
 * maybe they’ll let me design the way the hr displays…
