WP-Members 3.0 is a major release for the plugin. It is currently available for beta testing provided that you understand the following:

    1. This is a beta release and not cleared for production use. If you don’t know the difference, don’t load this on a production site.
    2. This is not yet production ready. See #1.
    3. This version makes a significant change to the plugin’s main settings array. I have taken care to construct an install package that will allow you to back out of the upgrade, but I cannot guarantee that will go well for all instances.

Understanding the above, please read on for information on this update.

First, there is a significant change to the settings. This will allow much more expandability for future updates. However, this means that the plugin will change its settings when you run the update (unless it’s a clean install). So here is my recommendation:

If you are testing for upgrading from a previous version, I recommend running this on a testing server with a mirror of your production site so you get an idea of how well the upgrade process will go.
If you are testing for a clean install, I can’t yet recommend using this on a production site, but a clean install on a testing server will give you an idea of new features (and will also have a clean install of the new settings array).
A clean install will not be able to downgrade to a previous version.
Testing the update will leave legacy settings in place. The final upgrade version will not.

I posted some of the new features, new hooks, and new shortcodes here when announcing the alpha release.

I will post a link in this thread when I publish the official announcement that will have a description of new features.

The beta version can be downloaded from github. The master branch is the 3.0 beta version.
