wp-login and htaccess protection on wp-admin

  • Hello

I’ve protected wp-admin with an htaccess password.

But when members want to login with wp-login the htaccess passord is asked to members

Is it possible not to get the htaccess question when acess to wp-login ?

Thank you very much for your help

    Nicolas

  • i wonder if just restricting ips in the htaccess would be a solution ?

actually ip restriction is not a good solution as i would need to put every ip of every author in the htaccess…

Still wondering how to protect wp-admin/ AND let my authors login ?

Have you whitelisted the ajax handler (admin-ajax.php)?

    Hi

Yes tried that but it looks like WordPress needs other files in wp-admin/ when a user want to login

Maybe i should whitelist some other files in the htaccess to allow users login ?

If only i could now what files in /wp-admin/ are called by wp-login, i could whitelist them in the htaccess protection

I’ve done this in the past and I have a certain set that I whitelist (sorry I don’t want to list them here).

Use Firebug with your browser first to check and see first. Then look at your server logs to see what’s being accessed and what’s throwing up the request.

Thank you for your answer, i sent you a mp on Webmasterworld 😉

i just tried to whitelist some files in the htaccess but couldnt find the good ones…
