  • I’m trying to upgrade my WordPress version to 2.7 via the manual method.

When I upload all the new files, wp-load.php fails. It’s the only file of the entire bunch that fails. This is the log from my FTP client (Filezilla) from when I try to upload the file:

Status: Starting upload of H:\Word Press Work\WP 2.7\wordpress\wp-load.php
    Command: PORT 192,168,0,141,212,63
    Response: 200 PORT command successful
    Command: STOR wp-load.php
    Response: 550 wp-load.php: Permission denied
    Error: Critical error

I can upload the file to other directories on my webhost, but if I try to move it to the WordPress folder I get another error.

This is the only file that I can’t upload to the WordPress folder, so I don’t believe that it’s a permissions or client issue.

    Any ideas?

  • I have a dedicated server with several accounts. Sometimes I will login to my server as the root user and update a file in one of my accounts. When I do that, the owner of that file becomes root. In the future, if I login to that account as the account owner, I can make no changes to that file since it’s owned by root.

Could you be experiencing something similar?

Good thought, but I don’t think that’s the problem.

The machine I’m uploading from (Windows Vista home PC) only has one account. I also only have one FTP account on my webhost. Plus, all the other files go fine. Even if I extract the wp-load.php from the archive and upload it immediately, I still get the same error.

KTwo, I’m having the same exact problem.

I manually uploaded all my root WordPress files and load-php refuses to upload. At the moment I cant even log into my site through Admin because I need that darn file. I’ve tried uploading through both Filezilla as well as my webhost’s FTP client.

I’m baffled what to do. I currently use Dreamhost. What web host are you using? I’m not sure if this is a problem with Dreamhost or the upload-php WordPress file.

doh, shouldnt type when I’m tired. When I say load-php and upload-php I mean the wp-load.php file.
