• I saw this topic “Resolved” and it included this reply from the original poster: “Thank you for taking the time to answer, and for directing me to the detailed install instructions in the codex.”

Well, I have no idea what a “codex” is. I’m just a regular guy who is trying to install Buddypress and it has failed twice now. I’ve rebooted, I’ve logged off and logged back on, I’ve downloaded a fresh ZIP file to install – I’m not a professional so please don’t talk “codex” to me. Just tell me in layman’s terms how to get this forum to work. It shouldn’t be this complicated IMO. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Log into your wordpress website. Navigate from the Dashboard to Plugins > Add New > search for BuddyPress (it will probably already be visible from the featured plugins tab) and click the Install Now button. Activate the newly installed BuddyPress plugin. There’s a bit of a learning curve after that, but that will get it installed.

Also see this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress/installation/ and this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress/faq/

I notice someone decided to change the title of your post to “How do I install wordpress” since I first replied to you. I doubt that it was you, given the time lapse (and your post history), but that would certainly change the context of this conversation.

If that was indeed your intended question, then WordPress isn’t a program that can be executed from your desktop in the traditional sense, if you were expecting to encounter an installer.

WordPress is a web based application that needs to be installed in a web server environment that meets the minimum requirements to run WordPress. BuddyPress, is a plugin “add-on” feature that needs to be installed once a WordPress site has been established.

No, that wasn’t me who changed the title. And I appreciate your advice, but I did that and it won’t activate. That’s my problem. I installed Buddypress Forum, tried to activate it, it failed. So I rebooted my computer, tried it again, activation failed so I uninstalled it, downloaded a fresh ZIP file directly from the website, installed it, tried to activate it and it failed three times.

Any other suggestions, or should I just use another forum? Thanks.

So it won’t allow me to change the title now, so it’s not likely I’ll get any suggestions for my REAL problem. I included the tag “https://wordpress.org/tags/buddypress-forum-fails-wp-install-multiple-times” but anyone who sees the changed title here will probably leave. Why on Earth would an administrator change the effing title of my plea for help?

@claytonjames @doncobb Do either of you remember what the gist of the title was before?

I’ve changed the thread title to ‘wp installations still failing even fresh zip files’ – which I’ve retrieved from the slug of the thread.

From the URL I am positive that the title was “WP installation still failing even with fresh zip files”.

*Changes from “Trouble installing BuddyPress” to “WP installation still failing even with fresh zip files”*

Your title was changed to provide the casual passerby an idea of what your problem was. You clearly said you are trying to get BuddyPress working and keep in mind that the moderators here are trying to help you.

Also duplicate topics get closed or deleted when found. Having multiple conversations makes it harder on us volunteers to support you.

I’m sorry your upset but that really does not change the topic, nor does it change who replies. You may not know it but you are posting in the wrong place and the unpaid volunteers are trying to help you. (Waves at ClaytonJames). You’ve posted in “Installation” when you really need to post in “How-To and Troubleshoot”. “Installation” is getting the base WordPress installation working. You’re trying to leap ahead to installing and configuring a complex add-on.

Well, I have no idea what a “codex” is. I’m just a regular guy who is trying to install Buddypress and it has failed twice now.

The Codex is where almost all of the WordPress self-help documentation is located.

You’re trying to install BuddyPress, which is to be honest, is a little advanced. First get WordPress working and the links ClaytonJames provided above can help you with that.

Once you’ve gotten your WordPress installation and you want to get BuddyPress working then please consider visiting this site.

    https://buddypress.org/

As I’ve said, BuddyPress requires a little more work and that’s why it has a dedicated site and forum just for that plugin.

I’ll leave this topic open but you really should seek BuddyPress support in the other forum.
