WP for photoblog and gallery with shopping cart

Hi,

My ultimate aim is to have a photography blog with galleries where people can buy prints (shopping cart).

I was initially scared away from WP because of all the codex that seems to be required for even a basic blog.
I have not begun to use WP yet but ready to update my Blogger into WP.

To achieve my stated goals above, can existing themes and plugins be utilized ‘out of the box’ initially?
I can always get more daring with code later but I’d like to know I can get up and running without writing html all over the place.
