Support » Installing WordPress » WP files turn to Dreaweaver files why?

  • When I unzip the WP files they immediately become Dreamweaver files – can someone please tell me what causes this and how to correct it?
    Thanks!

  • What is a DW file?
I suspect you do not have a software assigned to open the .php files on your computer.

By default, you may have .php files set to open with Dreamweaver if you have it installed on your system. This is setup on a default install of the software, and if you didn’t diverge from this, that is the file association you will see. Fortunately this is fairly simple to change.

Are you using a windows machine or a mac?

You can use DreamWeaver to read, change, and upload WordPress files to your website. The PHP extension is not changed by DW which is in fact, just a file editor.

I have a similar problem. My files are showing up as Broderbund files (which I believe is Printshop, or something similar.)

Can you please tell me how to get the files to be PHP files on a Windows machine? (I cannot right click open without getting an error message).

    Plus…when I download wordpress, there is a wp-config.php file, but not a wp-config-sample.php file…does this make a difference?

    Thank you.

Go to “My Computer”,click on C drive, go to Tools, folder options, file types. Scroll down to PHP. You will see what program is set to open file. Click on change and pick the program you want to open the file with from now on. Click on OK and you are done.

Sorry I am not sure about the config files. I have both.
