Support » Fixing WordPress » WP didn’t convert all categories to tags?

  • I used the “convert categories to tags” function on the new wordpress 2.3. It worked for most of my categories, but not all of them. And not it says that I have no categories left to convert – even though I see posts that have them listed.

    Any help?

  • Exactly the same thing has happened to me.

    Most of my categories were converted, but some weren’t and now the convert categories page tell me I don’t have any to convert just as you describe.

    In addition, there doesn’t seem to be anywhere in the dashboard that I can edit my tags that have been converted.

    Some help with this would indeed be great! 🙂

    Thanks in advance,

    Josef.

    Thanks, those look like useful plugins 🙂

    But they don’t actually resolve the issue with our unconverted tags. 🙁

    edit wp-admin/import/wp-cat2tag.php and remove line 21:

    “if ( !tag_exists($wpdb->escape($category->name)) )”

    Doing that should bring up the remaining categories that were not originally converted.

    Or, chances are that it converted your categories to tags but didn’t associate them with posts, so could go in and delete the tags in question using the tag-managing-thing plugin, then retry the import.

    I am having this problem too. Unfortunately, your fixes do not work for me tparlin.

    I removed the line of code, from wp-cat2tag.php and the categories that were not visible before did come back… but when I convert again, it tells me that they are already tags and nothing changes. The tags are not converted and still appear as categories.

    I have tryied the tagmanagingthing plugin, but it did not appear to actually do anything.
