I am experiencing the exact same issues described in this ticket: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/scheduled-job-and-run-now-job-do-not-work-stuck-at-restart-after-4-seconds/

In my case, I schedule the backup to run and once the time is past nothing happens.

The “Backups” tab also says: “No files could be found. (List will be generated during next backup.)” There is no backwpup-XXXX-backups folder created. I tried manually adding one and running a backup but no files appear here.

The “Logs” tab shows each of my manually triggered runs only. (Meaning, if I try to manually run a backup or use the cron link these do not get recorded.)

If I try to use the cron link when the Start job option is set to “with WordPress” (i.e. https://scrippsinn.com/wp-cron.php?_nonce=9053f602&backwpup_run=runext&jobid=1), I get the white screen (expected) but the “Jobs” page does not show an active job running. (It will only show as actively running if I set the Start job option to “with a link”.) However, if I use that link while it’s set to “with WordPress”, the “Jobs” page will then show the “Next Run” date as being scheduled for “December 31, 1969 at 4:00 pm by WP-Cron”.

On the bright side, all of my manual backups do appear in Dropbox. I’m just not finding any copies on the server.

    Can you help?

    Hello @gcommerce
hmm I think you did not enable Backup to Folder in Job Description ^^
We also have detailed guide on how to use BWU here, please take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pECMkLE27QQ&list=PLtaXuX0nEZk9_54BOxcBYXMI3gx3ZxICQ&index=1
I hope my answer could help ^^

Hi there. Yes, checking the box to store backups to a folder works and I didn’t have that checked before – thank you.

But the bigger problem is that cron isn’t working. Each time I set a time, when the time for it to trigger happens, it resets the next schedule date to December 31, 1969 at 7:00 pm by WP-Cron (Eastern timezone). Now what?

There should be cron issue on your site, which is not related to BackWPUp, but you can use server cron or any online cron service to trigger the job, BackWPUp have a feature called run job with a link: go to your job -> Schedule tab -> choose Start job with a link and pass the link to server cron or online cron service, I would recommend you to use https://cron-job.org/
