• Hi all – and Esmi?

It transpires that the permalink structure that was recommended to me on this WP Forum is not apparently an option !

I want my permalinks settings to be /%post_id%/%postname%/

However, as I construct the site, I now notice that this format only affects my Posts urls, but not my Pages.

    I asked a ‘geek’ on StudioPress…

“How do I get Pages to respond to my desired permalink structure?

I can only get Pages to appear something like mysite.com/24pink-custard

    rather than mysite.com/24/pink-custard.”

He replied: “It cannot be done. This is a WP core issue. If you would like to bring it up with them I recommend submitting a trac ticket.”

Back to square one?! Or is the compromise page url good enough to avoid the WP functionality problems resulting from /%postname%/

    or /%category%/%postname%/ urls?
    Thanks,

    B

  • True, for pages WP disregards the ID, I don’t know why, but personally I’m happy with that.
The ‘geek’ referred to the trac where you can submit ideas.

    Hi Roy,

Yes, you’re probably happy because your site is not ‘page heavy’? I was planning to make mine very page heavy, but I’m beginning to think posts might be a better idea.

    Thanks,

    B

I’d like to use only /%postname%/ for posts too, but that turned out to be a bad idea. Why, with many pages, does the ID in the permalink seem better for you?

Also, generally speaking, pages are for static content (‘about us’, ‘contact’, that sort of information), posts for dynamic content (say, blog posts). Posts can have categories and tags, pages don’t, a few things you might want to keep in mind.
