/wp-content/themes/ directory

  • I keep seeing this folder referred to as the one that you should put downloaded themes in, but I can’t find it on the admin page.

Some help would be much appriciated!

It’s not in the Admin area. You have to access it via FTP or whatever file management application your host provides if you are uploading themes manually.

I’m using WinZip Pro. Does anyone know how to access outside folders from there?

    WinZip is a file-compression tool.

You need to be using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client.

a good ftp client is Filzilla. It’s free. This allows you to access your site and view it as the typical folder structure your used to seeing in a Windows environment. You can then click through and access your theme folder and manually add to it.

I actually have Filezilla, but I’m not sure how to use it. (I’m an real noob here, sorry).

It looks like you have to log in with a host and port for it to work. Is that right?

Any other info which may help guide me would be much appreciated!

Yes, you need to use your FTP credentials, set up through your hosting account.

Normally, the host is “ftp.mydomain.tld”. The default FTP port is “21”. Your username and password will come from your hosting account, which should have some tool (cPanel, etc.) to allow configuring of FTP accounts.

    Thanks Chip!
