Support » Plugin: WP Mail SMTP by WPForms » wp-config.php password lines cause a fail

When I add the two lines recommended in WP Mail SMTP settings to wp-config.php to mask the SMTP username password, emails fail to go through.

But when I remove those lines all is OK. So, from both a security and functionality standpoint, any suggestions?

    Hi @everanomad,

From the security standpoint, we highly recommend you set up your password in your wp-config.php. If the test email fails, it might be due to the constants not set properly. When you get a chance, could you please share the error details while sending test emails with these two lines still added in wp-config.php? This is because your password will be stored in a database in the plain text if not set in wp-config.php, so as long as you don’t see anything suspicious within your site, it’s okay to save the password in the database as well.

    I hope this helps!

Hi @everanomad – We haven’t heard from you in about a week, so I’m going to go ahead and mark this ticket resolved. If you still have questions, though, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.
