Support » Installing WordPress » wp-config: All info correct, but error still 2.0

  • I get the same wp-config problem that a lot of people seem to get. However, I have mySQL, I know my username and password are correct, and from what Brinkster will cough up (their support is not very easy to navigate) I have the correct server.

I’ve tried every permutation, and yet install.php still does not recognize my database.

Are there any common pitfalls I might be guilty of?

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql3.brinkster.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

  • Are you one of the 1% that has to change “localhost” in config.php?

    define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');

I know when I used yahoo, they called their host “mysql” for some reason. May check your host on that one.

    citeewurkor,
didn’t you read the OP? 🙂 – It says: mysql3.brinkster.com
Is the user added to the DB? What site admin interface do you have? cPanel, plesk…?

Yes, I am using the mysql3.brinkster.com address.

I am using the control panel. I was unaware I had to add a user. I will try to do that, thank you.

OK< I’m lost. How do I add a user? I am using Control Panel.

    What “Control Panel”?
See on this page http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/ if you recognize any of the site admin interfaces under the Install. If you find yours in the list, read carefully the instructions.

    sorry moshu.. I’m brainless sometimes…
    gracefully leaves….
