Support » Fixing WordPress » WP as encyclopedia

  • I have a database of plant information that I want to present alongside (or integrated with) my WordPress blog. I want to present it with a particular page layout, one page per entry, built on the fly from the database. I suspect the resulting integration could be a lot of work, but also very nice.

    Where do I start?

I have found and looked at several schemes for portfolios, WP-as-CMS, catalogs, classifieds and so on. But nothing (yet) for a one-per-page presentation.

  • Hi there,

Can you be more specific about what you need? I’m not exactly clear on the problem.

I mean, you could assign each post its own individual category (this would be the encyclopedia entry) and use the category pages as your single page.

If you want WordPress to only display one post on the front page, you can use Options->Reading->Blog Pages and change the number there to 1.

If you can be more specific, I can try to be of more help.

    Hi, and thanks for replying!

I can point you to the semi-raw (semi-cooked?) data, and a sample page of what I’d like to see. Somewhere between those two is a solution…

The main question is about keeping the number of categories to a user-friendly limit. If I have 75 species of tress , 75 categories would be unwieldy. So I am hoping there’s some other way of organising them.
