wp and server phpmyadmin

i ran wp on xampp. everything on the index page worked. all menus (spryassets) and the index page pulled up 3 excerpts from wp. then i transferred the files via ftp to my host (isp server) and everything worked fine.now my buddy who worked on website (i on wp) wanted the wp files off the root. they were in a sub directory. so i transferred using General from wp login page under Settings. Menus didn’t work nor were posts shown on index page. i’ve checked config file and everything was set to isp phpmyadmin settings. i switched back to xampp settings and it worked again ..menus but no posts. what or how should i resolve this.not a clue what to search for on wp or google? if you think you can help please do. thank you.
