wp-admin/install.php MISSING

  • I run a Mac 10.6.6.
    Downloaded WP 3.2.1

    Told to:
    “Open wp-admin/install.php in your browser.”
BUT no such file exists in the downloaded files!

    So what now?

  • Did you install a Mamp server on your computer as you will need a server locally or a host to run wordpress.

    govpatel, thanks.
Yes, I have a MAMP server running on my machine.
Do I need another local server to run WP locally?
If yes, how so? Can I share the Apache server that
    MAMP uses?

OK – thanks, I got it. I found how I can use MAMP for WordPress.

What I was not prepared for was my forgetting the user name.
For the database I used “root”, and forgot about that.
When WordPress first came up I typed the blog name
for user name, and then, because it wouldn’t accept that,
I asked that it send me my password, which I KNEW,
thinking I’ll see my username there.

Well I never got any email, no matter how many times I tried
    to invoke the “send password”
    . So now I have a blog I myself
    cannot get into!!

Maybe you have an idea for me. I haven’t gotten any emails sent to me.
I started and restarted MAMP server but no dice!

No you do not need server

When you install server locally it can not send emails that is why you do not receive email with password.

If you have not done anything on wordpress you can delete wp-config.php and run install program again

    or

You will have to reset your password in database
