 * Typically, a blank screen during install means you didn’t get a complete and
   intact set of WordPress files uploaded to your host. I’d consider downloading
   a fresh copy of WordPress from the Download tab at the top of this page, then
   use something like [7-Zip](http://7zip.org) to extract the files. Then reupload
   the files to your host. Review [Uploading WordPress to a remote host](http://codex.wordpress.org/Uploading_WordPress_to_a_remote_host)
   and make sure you are using ASCII transfer mode in your FTP client.
 * If you have an `.htaccess file,` that too could be causing the problem–rename
   that if necessary.

 * so the “default” unzip program on my mac may not do the job properly?
    I use
   Dreamweaver as ftp client. Do you know if i can use ASCII transfer mode there?
   And if i have a .htaccess file, what should i rename it to? Thanks!

 * Try [http://filezilla-project.org/](http://filezilla-project.org/)
 * Rename it to htaccess.hold – you probably won’t need that file but just in case.

 * Copy it to your local computer, then delete it on your host’s computer.

 * I’m having a problem with opening this file as well, except I get this error
   message when it loads: ERROR: %s’), $error); ?>
 * The whole page is just code and it doesn’t make too much sense.
 * Any ideas?
