I’m getting a very strange error. When I try to log in to the backend of wordpress at the address http://www.mysite.com/wp-admin, to access the backend, I am automatically being redirected to http://www.mysite.com/login.php… as if I were trying to log into an account as a regular user or a customer.

I’ve cleared the cookies from my browser, tried to access the backend on chrome (usually used) and firefox, but no matter what, I can’t get to my admin dashboard.

This appears to be a ghost in the machine for me, because yesterday I had no problems. If I were to land on the correct pack, Google Authenticator would be there asking for a code from my phone.

I’m a novice with wordpress, and I can’t seem to figure this out. Please help. (I’m going to post this on wordpress.com too, just in case someone over there sees it and knows the answer.)

  • Hello

When you are not logged into your account, and when you typed wp-admin, it will automatically redirect to login.php which is correct, this is where you log into your dashboard and you enter your credentials.

Thanks for letting me know that. However, when I log in with administrator credentials, it logs me in as a regular user and takes me to my website, but it does not take me to the Admin Dashboard.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that there is no logout button.

Okay. That problem was solved by following a guide to add a new user with administrator privileges… although I’m not sure what happened to my admin account in the first place.

Thanks for everyone’s help. Now on to the next issue…
