• I have two sites installed on the same VPS and I’m having a problem with site2.

This is not a multisite setup but it goes something like this…

    site1.com and site2.com

site1.com points to the home directory and everything is working fine.

site2.com points to a folder site2 and the subdomain is site2.site1.com

when accessing site2.com/wp-admin i am redirected to a site2.site1.com/wp-admin however, if i include a trailing / after /wp-admin like site2.com/wp-admin/ everything works fine.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening. I have double checked the wordpress options and both home and site values are http://site2.com

This is not a multisite network problem, this is a problem with how your hosting account is setup to handle the dns. site1.com might be the main domain in your hosting, and they alias site2.com to site2.site1.com. Contact your hosting provider for how you should work within their setup for the DNS.
