• Hello,

I installed 6.1.1 without any plugins, using twntytwenty-three and wrote a test post with a “more” block, however “Read more” does not appear on the live page. The only way for a user to read the full article is to click the post title.

Are there any special settings required for a user to see the clickable “read more” to get to the full post?

    Thanks

  • This is a theme issue… and has nothing to do with WordPress 6.1.1 itself.

Are there any special settings required for a user to see the clickable “read more” to get to the full post?

I just tested the theme, and it seems even though the -- READ MORE -- block was used in several templates, none of them has any link text, making the “read more” link/button completely invisible.

But the beauty of FSE is that you can easily fix this without writing a single line of code.

Go to “Site Editor” (APPEARANCE => EDITOR) and open one of the templates where post excerpts are shown (eg Home, Archive, etc). In the editor, you should see below every excerpt the following text: Add "read more" link text. Click in this area (any of them) and type your “read more” text (eg Read More, Continue Reading, etc).

Note that you’ll have to do this for every one of your theme’s templates that displays excepts!

And, again, it’s a theme issue, not WordPress.

Oops, while this works nice with twentytwenty-three … what do I do when the Appearance -> Editor does not show up on a theme? Add a snippet to functions.php?

That’s theme-specific, and most themes will have this by default.

What theme are you have problem with?
