Support » Fixing WordPress » WP 5.1 update continually returns to the database update status page

  • Resolved sleeplessinDC

After updating to WP 5.1, I get the page that tells me there is no update needed for the database. Fine. I click Continue and it takes me to the home page. When I try to go to the Dashboard in the toolbar, or even the widgets or menu, I get taken back to that page that tells me no update is needed. Seems to be a continuous loop to that page.

I had to log off and then back on to be able to get to the Dashboard.

  • Had the same issue. What worked for me was accessing the /wp-content/ folder (you should be able to do this either via FTP/SFTP or cPanel > File Manager) and renaming the file object-cache.php, and after that, bingo! it cleared the loop and another file object-cache.php was automatically created. I found this solution on this youtube video:

I just installed the update and this is happening to me, too. I’ve submitted a support request. While I could probably follow what’s above, this must be affecting other people. Figure bringing it to support’s attention via email would be plan A. Waiting for their response.

So, I just followed the instructions above, and it totally worked. Thank you so much!

@cbrandt you are a god! Your instructions worked 100% perfect! Thank You x10

Appeared to work. However, the same issue occurred when I tried to access a plugin.

    Based on this thread:

the solution is to flush memcached on the server with the following command:

    echo ‘flush_all’ | nc localhost 11211

    Thanks, CB!
    That worked for me.

No longer a problem with the latest update to 5.1.1 WordPress.
