 * I updated to 3.0.5 yesterday, but it says that an automated update failed to
complete, please attempt the update again now. However, the updates section doesn’t
show that I need to update. How can I get this to go away?

 * There is a bug in the new version, its well covered in the forum if you read
   through it.

 * This has nothing to do with the “bug” in the new version.
 * If you’re *not* running 3.0.5, you’ll want to run a manual update. [http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update)

 * Andrew, this is exactly the problem. It says I am running wordpress 3.0.5, but
it also says on the dashboard that an automated update has failed to complete,
please attempt the update again now. However, when going back to the updates
page, it says you do not need to update, so why is it giving me this message?

 * Sounds like the update went through, but the .maintenance file wasn’t removed.
You can delete the `.maintenance` file and the message should go away.
 * That said, it’s entirely possible that the update failed midway through. It works
now, but you might be missing some files you need.
 * That said, if you were updating from 3.0.4, then you should be okay. None of
the fixes in 3.0.5 were critical by themselves, and any single file missing won’t
   cause devastation or destruction.
 * I would probably consider doing a manual update to 3.0.5 anyway, just to be safe.

 * Fixed! Problem? Akismet needed to be updated. After running that, it fixed itself.

 * By updating Akismet, the maintenance file was removed. Chances are you’re all
   set. 🙂
