    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. I am truly sorry for the inconvenience you experienced.

I am not sure why this happened because we have no firewall or security settings that would do this to you. We certainly do not block people just because they visited a few pages of our site!

We have no other reports of this problem today so it might be a “one off” isolated incident. I can assure you that what happened was not because we decided to block you from visiting StatCounter.

You might considering updating your PC DNS settings to OpenDNS or Clourflare DNS. Both of these services are totally free, require no downloads and are widely trusted by millions of people and businesses.

DNS is like the phone book of the internet. When you visit any site a DNS lookup happens so you can connect to the right servers. If something goes wrong with the DNS lookup the site won’t load (even though it’s online).

    Cloudflare DNS info :

    OpenDNS info :

Please let me know if you need any help!

    Kind regards,
    Rory

I’m familiar with DNS, thanks; and am using OS X, not PC. But your reply reminded me that a well-known, widely distributed curated hosts file is being used on this system. Sure enough, statcounter was blocked all over the place in that hosts file – 2 entries for the “statcounter” naked domain, plus about 50 statcounter subdomains (c1, c2, etc). The two pages I had previously been able to reach at statcounter were at their blog subdomain, which was not blocked. So the block was on my end, not theirs. I’m editing my review for now, adding a couple of stars so far, and will re-edit if appropriate after trying out the plugin.

Update: After editing my curated hosts file, I was able to signup at statcounter just fine, and obtained the project id and security code. Installed it on my client’s site. They’re over the moon happy about it, and I can see why. This plugin provides all the information needed to better track Adwords visits, and a lot more. We love the little “Paid” icons beside gclid URL’s. StatCounter easily earns all 5 stars!
