• Hi guys, I really wasn’t sure where to post this, so sorry if this isn’t where it ought to be.

I have a website (not a blog) running on Joomla, but the process of creating a template for it giving me massive headaches; as I can’t seem to fully implement my design. When I look at wordpress templates, they look so much more elegant than Joomla. But I have problem, can wordpress handle a website such as mine? Most of my content is not on the front page, it’s on other pages only accessible by links. I’m going to have a hard time explaining it, but you can get a good idea of what I need by looking at my site:
    Sporenormous

Can WordPress work for traditional websites or is it only viable for Blogs?

    Thanks a lot!

  • You might be able to do it with WordPress – some of your content would need to be laid out differently.

You could also try looking at Drupal

Of course! That website isn’t particularly complicated. WordPress can work with just about anything.

What particular problems are you having?

velvetblues is correct. Most of my sites are made in wordpress including our web design site at equaldesign.co.uk. You can use pages instead of posts, or by using posts you can create a more dynamic homepage which could bring in information from your different categories.

Most of our portfolio is created using wordpress.

    Thread Starter thx

Thanks for the advice guys, I made the leap and switched to wordpress. Customizing the theme is so much easier (though, I used a free theme as my base and built around it).

    WordPress > Joomla 😉

    @markdw:

So you do use WordPress then? Not the “Equal Design Content Management System”? 😉

    ut-oh… busted.

    yay for wordpress rebranding? http://www.equaldesign.co.uk/equal-design-launch/#more-17

Customers that purchase a site from us all know that it is wordpress and we always credit WordPress in the footer of the admin section. It is great software and needs to recommendation.

Most customers (we are local based to small busineses remember) don’t know what wordpress is and therefore understand content management system better. We have customized the admin section slightly in order to make it more ‘user friendly’ and easier to understand for non-computer/internet users.

We are not trying to claim that we have made it in fact our sister site educationthemes.co.uk (currently under construction) is a great promotion for WordPress.
