• No phone help no email help just go to a forum Terrific when your problem is you have been locked out by this illogical system and therefore can’t get on the forums Great work everyone A wonderful circle of frustration Time I will never get back but at least social media can help keep others away Worst decision of my life to use wordpress Cannot wait to be rid of it

Can you explain how being locked out of your website prevented you from accessing WordPress.org forums?

@yourkidding, well at least you don’t feel entitled. 😉

Speaking for myself, I am forever grateful for wordpress (essentially a free product), to all the volunteers (who work for free), the plug-in and theme developers (where I can access many free versions of their solutions), and everyone else who contributes to the vast supportive wordpress community.

Whilst volunteering is a noble thing to do, the mantra that because it’s free it should not be held up to any standards is as wrong as it is frustrating.

Still a bit unsure what you’re referring to as the issue.

Trying to access my website was a nightmare because of using word press continually disallowing entry to me. Like I said no email no phone help and for me no business. And then trying to get onto to your forums just more problems Are we meant to use the same user name? The same email?? No explanations and therefore impossible to get any help because you can’t get into the forum or your website I had to pay someone to help me get into this forum to express my disappointment at such a floored system I really do appreciate that it is free but I am sure I am not the first and if the system remains the same not the last to be totally frustrated by your system. I have spent way to much time and money to let you know. Your system certainly won’t record many complaints because people can’t get in without a lot of hassle.

I’m really sorry you are having a hard time of it. There seems to be some misunderstanding here so I’ll try and explain.

Trying to access my website was a nightmare because of using word press continually disallowing entry to me.

WordPress software does not do that though your host or add-ons may. If you are using the self-hosted version of WordPress on your own installation then you can create a support topic using this link.

    https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting#postform

It’s unclear to me if you have a self-hosted installation. You are not using WordPress.COM are you? If you are self-hosted then you are in the right place.

Like I said no email no phone help and for me no business.

As you are aware these are 100% volunteer staffed support forums and there is no email or phone support offered. If you need that level of support then please consider researching paid options which it seems that you’ve done already. Those options are outside of the scope of these forums.

Are we meant to use the same user name?

You could if it’s not taken already. There are 7+ million registered forum accounts so you may not get the one you want. You can use your email too.

Your WordPress self-hosted account ID and name is not connected in anyway to the forums. They have nothing to do with each other and changing the password on one does nothing for the other nor does having an account on one side get you an account on the other.

I have spent way to much time and money to let you know.

Again, I’m really sorry you felt the need to do that but that was your choice. There is a learning curve but it’s not insurmountable.

Your system certainly won’t record many complaints because people can’t get in without a lot of hassle.

I think this entire topic demonstrates that that is not the case. 😉

That fact the you cannot understand my issues is testament to the kind of closed shop you run where if your not “in the know” you will always be on the outer. “There is a learning curve but it’s not insurmountable.” is just insulting to people like myself. Good on you for understanding your own system
As you keep saying you are all volunteers so all is excused? I must be delusional because my passwords and password troubles all go under “Word Press” nobody else. It seems you are denying any culpability for any problems that are generated by Word Press and nobody else. Problems that I can’t solve because nobody seems to take ownership of
And yes I know you are all volunteers. I volunteer to help an old lady across the street but I do not put her in the path of a bus.
If someone could just confirm that my password are generated by Word Press and therefore problems with such are a Word Press issue I will jump for joy even if nothing can be done about the problems

    Edit: Adding some more info.

Good morning! Well, it’s morning where I am.

I’ll try to be concise. I’m also trying to cover all the scenarios so “concise” is probably not going to happen.

If someone could just confirm that my password are generated by Word Press

No, your passwords are not generated by WordPress software.
Correction: in some scenarios WordPress will select an initial password for you. See added “a” items below.

1 – When you install WordPress your WordPress installation asks you for a password. That initial password is your choice.

2 – When you add new users you get to select that user’s initial password. Again that’s your choice.

2a – When users register via http://your-wordpress-URL-here/wp-login.php?action=register then your installation will send out an email with a temporary password.

3 – Users or the admin of your WordPress installation can change passwords.

4 – When you select the “Lost your password?” link on your WordPress installation then WordPress does not generate a new password. What it attempts to do is send you a link that will authenticate that you are you and let you select a new password.

5 – If that does not work because your server or WordPress installation is not delivering email properly then a technical solution is available using these methods.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

None of those methods require a WordPress dashboard to work but they are technical and many users will need help with that.

6 – Your own WordPress installation’s userid and passwords and these forums do not have anything to do with each other and are not connected in any way. Resetting your password here does nothing for your own installation.

I hope that clears up any issues you have regarding your self-hosted WordPress installation and user accounts/passwords.

    *Drinks more coffee*

I’m closing this topic as it’s well and truly become argumentative. No one has tossed anyone under any bus. It’s alright to post angry once and a while (it happens to everyone) but this topic isn’t really helping you or anyone else.

Please consider reading the forum welcome.

If you have a support topic that you need assistance with then please open a new one.

That includes any issues you may have with your installation such as passwords and/or locking yourself out.
