This is by far the worst plugin I have had to deal with in over 10 years.

Each update breaks a different feature. There will always be a feature or an add on that does not work, that is if the update even works. The last update I did broke the plugin completely. I had to roll back to their previous versions.

I have been dealing with this plugin for over 2 years and I have NEVER had it working perfectly. I’ve submitted countless bug reports (that we had to find on our own). Some fixes took over 2 months and some were never fixed. Forget using it properly if you use WPML.

It goes back to the WordPress basics. There was wp-content variables hard coded in the plugin which means it would break if you hardened your site by changing the plugins folder path. There’s a plugin path function (plugin_dir_path())for a reason, use it.

I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone. Build your own, you’ll save yourself some time.

I forgot to mention. One of the bugs I had was confirmed by their support team as bug. To this day (6 months later) it is still not resolved.

    Hi @impeka,

Geez, this is definitely the type of review we try our hardest to avoid, but your thoughtful feedback and honesty are indeed appreciated.

You’re not completely off-base here, particularly where it comes to breakages in product updates. We’ve done a lot to consolidate our codebase in such a way that it supports the base calendar and all of the add-ons it supports. At the same time, we know we can be doing more to ensure backwards compatibility on a release-by-release basis, including providing more communication when we know a release is going to introduce breaking changes. Some of those efforts are in motion as we type, though I know it doesn’t change our recent failings and how they’ve affected you — and for that, I’m truly sorry.

You referred to a specific issue:

    > I forgot to mention. One of the bugs I had was confirmed by their support team as bug. To this day (6 months later) it is still not resolved.

I looked up your support history and I’m assuming this has to do with the conflict between WPML and our Filter Bar add-on. It looks like we were able to figure out that the conflict is something that needs to be resolved on the WPML side and that was the where the support conversation stopped. We’ve worked very closely with the WPML team for a number of years now to make The Events Calendar, Events Calendar PRO and Filter Bar integrate with WPML and I can assure you — it’s no simple matter, but we are committed to seeing it through with the WPML team.

Again, I’m bummed by the 1-star review but I (and the entire team here at Modern Tribe, of course) can learn a lot from this and are hoping we can earn back your trust (and more stars) as we put out new releases that are more mindful of breaking changes and how we communicate them. Thanks for keeping us honest in those respects.

    Cheers,
    Geoff

Thanks for the reply, although it is just that a reply. Let’s see if you guys can help with the ticket I just created. Last time it took weeks to get replies and months (4) to get a fix. Action speaks louder than words.

I certainly agree with you there: actions do speak louder than words. I see that my colleague Shelby is already on the case and I know you’re in good hands.
