I just need something to generate my WordPress as a static site, and this works, though is still rather basic, but it is free, so no way I could complain.

I do wish there was a lower tier paid option for self-hosting admins. I don’t need to deploy anywhere, I don’t need algolia, I don’t need Forms, I don’t need Integrations, and probably don’t need other stuff available with the $99/year package.

I do need local search and would really like Optimize feature set and I do need a lower price, as $99/year for a personal project is too steep.

    Hey @openletter,

first of all – thanks for the great review!

I’m actually getting back and forth with the idea of a Simply Static Pro “light”, so it’s pretty interesting to hear your opinion here!

I’m still not fully sure what to include or not – there are some obvious things we can leave out like Algolia, Forms (I would probably limit that to 1-2 integrations), and limit the Deployment options (removing GitHub, AWS).

Long story short, I’m definitely considering adding a smaller plan to the pro version with more affordable pricing.

My main concern is making our offer too complicated (Which version is for me? Complaints about specific features being only available in certain versions, etc.).

I’ll give it some more thought, but what I’m looking for I think instead of “light” I would call “basic self-hoster”, as this would be more obviously for me.

Also, just generally, there are some things that at a certain price point it is easy for me to say yes to. I don’t know where this would be for others, but at $20/yr, I just tick the box for something I know I will use.

At $100/yr, it is hard to get me to even look at it.
