• The plugin does exactly what it says; Adds support for WebP images and automatically converts the pictures you upload to that specific format. However, not having the option to convert existing images is a big feature missing from the plugin for me.

I don’t know what you have in your future plans, but what would you recommend for converting old images to WebP and deleting their original format to save disk space? I’m currently using WebP Express, but I wonder if you recommend something else?

@meymigrou Thank you for the feedback it is much appreciated. If you do have an idea for a new Performance Lab module, you can create an issue in the Performance Lab repo.

With regards to a recommendation for a replacement of WebP Express, this is something that we are not able to advise on. If you do however, have any issues with the WebP Uploads plugin, we would be happy to help in the support forum.

    Thanks again for your feedback!

    Hello,
@adamdunnage, so there is no way to convert old images to WebP? Your answer didn’t appear clear or said. PageSpeed Insights flagged my page recommending to use WebP Uploads to convert but appears it’s for newly uploaded images. Can the old image be deleted and reuploaded?

    Thanks

@kingbrown75 This plugin adds WebP support for media uploads within the WordPress application. WebP images will be generated only for new uploads, pre-existing imagery will not be converted to WebP format.

If you delete and re-upload an image to the media library then these will be converted. I hope this helps to answer your question. If you have any further queries then please feel free to open a support topic.

Manually deleting and reuploading isn’t remotely feasible for a site that’s been around for any length of time, a media library could extend to hundreds or thousands of images.
