Works like a charm

It works like a charm. All who got problems getting it working:
In settings > Google Fonts, tick the “Load Fonts automatically” checkbox and click on the “Reload Fonts” button. Then save the changes. That’s it.

You will see in your browsers inspector > Network that the fonts are hosted locally (at least here it is)
