• We’ve used this plugin for a few months and it works well. It’s easy to set up and successfully redirects Amazon URLs and short links to the appropriate regional site. Unfortunately, the latest update of the plugin includes this hidden change to the TOS (between the asterisks):

“This service relies on open source and free to use resources to a large extent. To cover for the costs we do incur, we will use our ID if you don’t specify one for a certain Amazon store for the country the visitor is from. ****Also, we will use our Affiliate ID for 3 out of every 100 Amazon clicks we redirect****.”

Because of this change, we will no longer use this plugin. I understand that developers need to monetize the plugins they create, but I’d rather pay for a premium plugin than have my affiliate tag replaced.

    Hi tiffownsthis,

Thanks for using the plugin – glad that you found that it works well, thanks for your review, and sorry to see you go!

Couple of things we want to make clear though:

    1. This plugin allows you to make money from international traffic. If your international traffic is more than 5% (which we are sure is), you will make more money using this plugin. Period.

    2. The clicks are charged by the redirect service that is used by a large number of websites even without wordpress plugin. The plugin itself does not charge anything.

    3. The ToS are absolutely transparent – it would have been easy for us to hide that in a garble of legalese that many of other plugins do, but we chose not to.

    4. At the end, (as you said), the plugin works super well, we support it very well and we continue to develop it to make it ever more useful.

We believe that the plugin is very well worth 3 clicks per 100 clicks to fund those efforts. We are sorry that you don’t agree and we do hope that you’d find something more suitable for your needs.

But that means it is not free. You might want to change your description. Adding something to a TOS is not being transparent!
I can understand tiffownsthis concern. I am concerned myself. I also belief you will be better off charging a price than this. Actually this makes me think and I will check other services if they just add their credentials. I even heard that now you can add multiple credentials to the same link.
I don’t think your change was wise!
