Support » Plugin: Simple Calendar - Google Calendar Plugin » Works as advertised! – Almost there

I had some small issues that I want to share.

    1) After you have a calendar on google, have your setting to public and sharing.
    2) open the calendar and click the XML little icon to get the FEED info
    3) go to the wordpress settings and enter the FEED – do this for each calendar you have on google.
    4) set the parameters on the page or post to display the calendar info or grid.

Where I was stuck was that the google FEED name is not HTTP:// but HTTPS

Keep you eyes on the exact wording used to get the feed.

    Otherwise – works with 3.5.1

I will test widgets but I have what I need on a page or two.

I think the link works fine on the eventlist code but the GRID shows the date of the event but it is not allowing for the click to the event details? Can the GRID function allow for a user to click and send them to the event details?

Let me know if I need to do something else.

  • Short update:

@ross – I cannot get the grid area to show the tool tip even when I check the box. No Luck. The event list works nice but I have to refresh the feed url. What is that? Can this be automatic as I enter events in google calendar they show up on the website event list?

Also, a wish list item to get the grid to be more link the google calendar as if we could embed the link into a page and it shows nice. I will give it a few more tries otherwise I may go for nicer embed option instead of the grid.

Any ideas of help will be appreciated.
By the way, this is a very nice plug-in minimal issues and nice feature to allow custom CSS. I liked dressing up the event list up a bit.

Could you post a link to your site, so I can investigate the tooltip issue?

The plugin caches the feed data for a length of time specified in the “Cache duration” option. This is why changes you make in Google Calendar don’t appear in the plugin instantly. You can reduce the cache duration, if you like, but avoid setting it too low or page load times will be affected. The cache can also be cleared manually at any time by clicking the “Refresh” link in the plugin settings.

    Hi Ross,

Thank you for the quick response. Here is the link

The menu right side “Calendar” – grid – NO link and no way to see detail.

Under Calendar Menu item is “Events” – This look OK and works with details link showing and going to see the info.

    Any help appreciated.
    again thanks for the help!

The problem is that the WP-UI plugin you’re using loads an older version of the jQuery UI JavaScript library that causes problems for the tooltip script my plugin uses.

I’ve created a little workaround functionality plugin here. You’ll need to copy/paste the code into Notepad (or similar), save the file as gce-load-newer-jquery-ui.php, upload it to your wp-content/plugins folder, then activate it in your WP admin.

Once activated, it should cause the tooltips to display correctly. If you have any further problems, let me know.

    Hi Ross,

Thanks for the work in investigating the issue. I tested in XAMPP and it is showing the tool tip within the date box. Only it is expanding the entire box to include all the info. It is stretching the square in a long rectangle. Is there a quick CSS fix to keep the perfect square and hover for the tip?

If you have a quick solution let me know as I will firebug on my end. If not, I will upload to main site and you can investigate if you have a moment.

    Thanks for your time!
PS I change some CSS to match feeds and it is looking a little better on the events.

What I want to tackle is to get narrow entry in your perfect square. Tooltip over the entry to show a large area of the message. I may accomplish this with CSS. First lets get it to squares again.

    talk to you soon.

    Hi Ross,

I was looking at the calendar in firebug and was thinking if there is a way just to see the title in the box and strip out everything else and tooltip over the title at a min without effecting the events list which is perfect for me as it stands.

If I can place an if statement to drive the calendar grid with just title and tooltip and build the event as is. this is what I need to accomplish.

    Any thoughts?

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “expanding the entire box to include all the info”. Are you referring to there being too much info to fit into the tooltip, so it ends up being very “long”?

Using the event display builder (under “Display Options”), you can control which information will be displayed in a list or tooltip via the [if-tooltip] and [if-list] shortcodes. Here’s an example:

This would cause the description to only display if the current output is a list.

    Hi Ross,

Thanks for the attention you have given to solve my issues. Apparently, I owe you an apology, sorry. I had to read your event builder more closely to realize the ton of short codes and how to use them with the examples. I corrected my issue.

I even found the additional plug-in to hide the details and then the click to expand them. This was what I was after to increase space and allow the user to open for details.

I do have more questions which I will open a new thread and close this out.

Topic close as this does work as advertised!

Great Plug-in and lots of flexibility.
