Working with wp query

    If I understand my task correctly I need to convert the query_posts loops in the index.php (Code Below) to wp_query loops in order to prevent it from interfering with the slide show plugin that also uses query posts? Is this correct? Based on the examples in the codex I am struggling to adapt the two existing loops in my homepage. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
