working, but not reducing file size enough
-
I have the latest version of Ewww & WordPress. I’m only getting very small percentages (approx. 1%-10%) for reduced file size. Nothing like the screenshots suggest. I’m even uploading HUGE stock images that haven’t been touched. Am I doing something wrong?

ewww_image_optimizer_jpg_quality()Nope, if you’re seeing ANY savings then you’re doing it right. Those screenshots were pictures that a friend of mind was using on his website, and when we saw how inefficiently photoshop had saved them, I wanted to show how dramatic of an improvement can be had in extreme cases. On untouched photos, it varies a great deal depending a lot on the camera. I usually see around 10-25% on jpgs from my camera, but your results will vary wildly depending on the image.
If you are optimizing PNGs and you have your own dedicated server, you can see the guidelines on the settings page for the recommended maximum optimization levels for optipng and pngout.I just wanted to update this. I was upset before thinking that the images weren’t shrinking enough, but I was so wrong. I was comparing my results to “save for web” in Photoshop & the results from this plugin are right in line with the lowest “high” quality image optimization settings. What I didn’t realize (before posting my first question in this thread) was that I needed to go into the media library and re-size my images proportionally to scale the massive photos down to the largest size that my theme displays. This knocked down the file size tremendously & put this plugin’s performance right on track with Photoshop’s “save for web” tool. Excellent plugin, exactly what I needed. Thank you! – you’ll be getting 5 stars from me 🙂
